Hi, I’m Damian
I am interested in people; their stories, the music that forms the soundtrack to their lives and the deep insight these give into those around us. Everyone has a voice, everyone has a story, everyone has a soundtrack. Back Story gives people the opportunity to record, share and preserve theirs for future generations.
For best part of 20 years I have been a professional photographer, a job completely bound up in a genuine interest in and an ability to engage with people.
In recent years, I have become (mildly!) obsessed with podcasts and radio shows like BBC Radio 4’s long-running show, Desert Island Discs, The Listening Project and StoryCorps from the USA, amongst many others.
The genius of DID in particular is that the requirement to select their music really focuses the interviewee’s mind on their life and times, drawing out fascinating insight into their personalities, relationships and experiences. What’s more, very often the most interesting people are those you have never heard of and who aren’t particularly famous or well-known.
And this got me thinking…
There needs to be a way in which everyday people like you, your family and your friends can have their stories and soundtracks recorded; for themselves, for family, for friends and for future generations.
Back Story was born.
Imagine if you could hear or see a recording of a long lost relative or friend talking about their life and times and sharing their favourite, most meaningful music. It would be amazing, right? That is exactly what Back Story creates for people and families all over the world.
