Why do I need Back Story?

How well do you know the people you hold dear? How well did you know long lost family and friends?

Could you name their favourite music? Do you know what their parents did for a living or where they went to school?

What about the experiences and relationships they had with family and friends growing up? How did these experiences and relationships shape and influence them? How did they become the people they are today?

What are their thoughts on what is important in life? What and whom do they hold dear and why? What have been the greatest challenges in their lives? What are their greatest successes? Do they have any regrets?

Through music and in-depth interviews, Back Story provokes deep thought, engaging conversation and has a lasting impact on both the interviewee and those with whom it’s shared, for generations to come.

Their story, their soundtrack, their legacy, recorded for posterity.

What if my life isn’t very interesting?

Everyone has a story to tell and that story is inherently interesting to their family, friends and future generations.

Think of it like this: imagine if you could hear or see a recording of a long lost relative or friend talking about their life and playing the soundtrack that accompanied it. What an amazing insight would that be.

This is how your family, friends and future generations will think of your Back Story.

Your story, your soundtrack, your legacy, recorded for posterity.

What if I am not really into music?

The interviewee does not have to be into music or even know anything about music. There is no good music, there is no bad music, there is only their music.

But, when you stop to think about the important times, places and people in your life, music is never far away. This is the soundtrack of your life.

Thinking about your life and times will help you think about your music. Thinking about your music will help you think about your life and times.

Lifestory recording for everyone.

What equipment do you use?

In Person Interviews

We visit the interviewee in their home and bring all the equipment required to professionally record the audio interview (and video where applicable).

Online Interviews

Audio - We will send the interviewee a specialist microphone and recording device with simple instructions in order to ensure that we record the audio in the highest quality possible. They then return the equipment to us in a prepaid package. (No professional equipment is used for the Short Interview Version)

Video - We use Zoom for this. If the interviewee doesn’t have a webcam or theirs isn’t good enough quality we will send them one with the audio equipment. They then return the equipment to us in a prepaid package.

Can I control who hears my Back Story?

100% yes.

At the heart of Back Story is the ability for the interviewee to be open, honest and frank about their life and times.

This requires security that they will be in complete control of their recording to ensure that the right people hear it at the right time.

Back Story interviews are not for broadcast. They are for the interviewee’s personal use.

Can I hear/see any samples?

Each Back Story interview is private and confidential so it’s hard to be able to show you lots of samples from different interviews. Ron was happy for us to use snippets of his audio interview which you can listen to to the left.
